ABOUT Sahana is one of the most promising young artists of today. She trained at Ganesa Natyalaya, Delhi, under the renowned Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan for fifteen years in the Tanjavur style of Bharatanatyam. During these years she was mentored by senior Bharatanatyam dancers Rama Vaidyanathan and Anuradha Venkataraman. Sahana has performed widely as a solo performer and received critical acclaim for her performances. An empanelled solo artist of the ICCR and a scholarship holder for dance from the Government of Delhi, she has many prizes and awards to her credit. As a member of her Guru’s troupe, she has danced at major festivals both in India and abroad and played lead roles in her Guru’s productions. Sahana has conducted dance workshops in India and abroad and was selected to be the lead dancer for the Bharatanatyam segment, in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, 2010, held at Delhi. She has been a senior dance faculty member at Ganesa Natyalaya and taught there for seven years. Sahana received a Ph.D in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University, USA; where she was also the instructor for Bharatanatyam classes at the Vanderbilt Dance Program for four years. She has a Masters and Honors Degree in Mathematics from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. Currently, Sahana is a Visiting Assistant Professor at SUNY Buffalo. Dance,to Sahana, is not just a means of expressing herself. She finds some spiritual upliftment that helps her connect with herself better, and find that spark of divinity that exists within all of us. Contact : |
